Since 2004 Rush College of Nursing has offered its PhD in Nursing (formerly DNSc) program in an online, part-time or full-time format.

Whether taken part or full-time, the coursework in the PhD program is almost entirely online. We ask that students visit on campus for approximately one week per year. During that week both coursework and presentations from nationally known researchers will be offered.

One of the most important benefits is the increased accessibility to a quality doctoral program for the working professional. Family and work commitments often make it impossible to leave home for weeks at a time. Advanced practice nurses and year-round academicians who are interested in research and making a commitment to a doctoral program require a format that will work with their lifestyle. In addition, students enter the program as a cohort, with each student matched to an advisor who will mentor them throughout the program.

Yes. The program is designed to generate graduates who will assume faculty responsibilities within a senior academic environment, function as clinical nurse scientists and influence health care policy for diverse populations.

• Advanced practice nurses interested in clinical research
• Masters prepared faculty who wish to become senior academicians

We believe the online format is an important step in providing accessibility to Rush’s top rated doctoral program and faculty. Click here to view more detailed information about the PhD program of study.
