Master’s Degree - Advanced Generalist
The post-BSN Advanced Generalist is responsible for the clinical management of comprehensive client care, for individuals and clinical populations across the continuum of care, and in multiple settings. He/she assumes leadership/accountability for health outcomes for a specific group of clients within a unit or setting through the assimilation and application of research-based information to design, implement and evaluate plans of care. The Advanced Generalist is also responsible for the coordination and planning of care team activities and functions. Health promotion, risk reduction and improvement in point-of-care outcomes are critical elements in the role of the advanced generalist.
Master’s Degree - Nurse Practitioner (NP) Options
Acute Care (ACNP)
The ACNP program prepares experienced nurses for advanced practice roles providing
direct patient care in adult critical care and acute care settings.
Acute/Chronic Care Pediatric (ACCNP)
The ACCNP program prepares experienced pediatric nurses for roles as advanced
practice nurses in the subspecialty care of infants and children with complex
acute/chronic conditions.
Adult (ANP)
The ANP functions as a primary care provider to adult populations in the community,
focusing on wellness, illness management and disease prevention.
Anesthesia (CRNA)
The CRNA possesses advanced skills in the provision of anesthesia, development
of an anesthetic plan of care and evaluation of post-operative patient needs.
Requires a minimum of one year of recent critical care experience for admission.
Family (FNP)
The FNP provides comprehensive health care to persons across the lifespan within
a community setting. Emphasis is placed on assessment, maintenance, prevention
and/or identification of health problems and the management of common acute
and chronic disorders.
Gerontological (GNP)
The GNP works with healthy and frail older adults providing direct patient care
in a variety of settings. Emphasis is on promotion, maintenance and/or restoration
of health, optimal functioning, and promoting death with dignity.
Neonatal (NNP)
The NNP program prepares experienced neonatal nurses for advanced practice roles
caring for high-risk infants from birth through the first year of life. Content
is inclusive from promotion of wellness to management of acute and chronic illness
in a variety of settings.
Pediatric (PNP)
The PNP program prepares experienced pediatric nurses for advanced practice
roles in the care of children from infancy through adolescence. The spectrum
of health from promotion of wellness to management of acute and chronic illness
in a variety of settings is incorporated.
Psychiatric - Mental Health (PMHNP)
The PMHNP develops knowledge and skills in the behavioral and biological disciplines
and applies their learning to the treatment of psychiatric disorders within
individuals, families and groups. Emphasis is placed on the development of practitioners
prepared to function autonomously in a variety of clinical settings.
Community/Public Health (PHCNS)
The Community/Public Health CNS develops skills in assessing, planning and evaluating
nursing interventions for individuals, families and aggregates/populations.
There is strong emphasis on health promotion, primary prevention, and program
management.
Critical Care (CCCS)
The CCCS program prepares nurses for advanced practice roles in adult critical
care and acute care, functioning as expert practitioners, teachers, leaders/managers,
and investigators of complex clinical problems.
Gerontological
The gerontological CNS works with healthy and frail older adults in a variety
of settings, providing nursing leadership and consultation and participating
in multidisciplinary clinical programs that emphasize promotion, maintenance,
and/or restoration of health and optimal functioning.
Medical – Surgical
The medical-surgical CNS provides advanced nursing care to adults, from promotion
of wellness to management of acute and chronic health problems, across a variety
of settings. Teaching, leadership/management, and investigation of complex clinical
problems are additional role functions.
Pediatric
The Pediatric CNS program prepares experienced nurses for advanced practice
roles in the care of children and their families. The Pediatric CNS is able
to provide leadership and patient/case management in a variety of settings.
Psychiatric – Mental Health (PMHCNS)
The PMHCNS develops knowledge and skills in the behavioral and biological disciplines
and applies their learning to the treatment of psychiatric disorders within
individuals, families and groups primarily in in-patient settings. Teaching,
