Coalition of Nurses for Communities in Disaster

The purpose of the Coalition of Nurses for Communities in Disaster Project was to assist the Puerto Rico State Emergency and Disaster Management Agency in the identification, recruitment and training of nurses to assist during the response and recovery phases of a disaster. Emphasis was placed on activities of prevention, preparedness and the identification of priorities. The goal is to minimize morbidity and mortality in vulnerable and at risk communities in disaster.

State Nurse Practitioner Association Legislative Change Project

The primary project purpose was to provide a legislative action plan developed in response to the need to remove barriers that restrict nurse practitioners from being impaneled and reimbursed by insurers. A secondary purpose is to motivate the members of the NPA to collaborate together to promote the goal of improved legislation.

The Redesign of a University International Studies Program

The purpose of this project was to redesign a University International Studies Program into a centralized, consistent and cost-effective framework based on best practices in the field. Objectives included: 1) Designing a consistent framework of policies and procedures for all programs with centralized administrations; 2) Reducing the costs associated with International Studies while maintaining program quality; and 3) Developing an evaluation plan to measure student outcomes and program quality.

Developing a County Asthma Coalition

The primary purpose of establishing this coalition was to bring together diverse medical, educational, governmental and community groups for development of a collaborative effort to coordinate education and asthma screening. The coalition will provide a forum for the medical community and people with asthma to examine the problems associated with asthma.

Needs Assessment and Implementation of a University Campus Wellness Program

The purpose of this project was to assess student access to preventive and primary health services at a major university and establish onsite wellness and primary care services if indicated by assessment. A Needs Assessment including student focus groups was completed to gather data regarding the percentage of students with insurance coverage and the nature of that coverage. The second stage of the project was development of a proposal to establish health services on campus and initiation of on campus health services.

Nursing Community Collaborative to Increase the Availability of Nurses

Utilizing a collaborative format as defined by Chrislip, a local community collaborative was established and charged with developing initiatives for recruiting/retaining nursing students and increasing the student graduation percentage.

Utilizing Technology to Retain Nursing Faculty at a University

The primary purpose of this project was to alleviate the shortage of nursing faculty at a university by increasing the pool of available faculty who are prepared to teach online. A secondary purpose was to entice senior faculty to postpone retirement by teaching completely online or to teach online as adjunct faculty during retirement. A comprehensive training program was initiated to accomplish these goals.
