WEB-BASED MODULES


Web-based modules emphasize various aspects of CAM. These may include alternative healing systems; the biological basis for, safety, and efficacy of selected CAM therapies; and societal, cultural, and ethical issues pertaining to CAM therapies. A demonstration module is available for viewing. Modules may be taken for academic or continuing education credit (mechanism in progress).

CAM Overview – This module is currently open to Rush College of Nursing faculty and students. As of fall 2001, all incoming students in the undergraduate and master's programs have been required to complete this module. Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss current patterns of CAM use by the American public, including the most commonly used CAM therapies, health problems frequently managed with CAM therapies, and types of patients likely to choose CAM providers
  • Compare and contrast the philosophic principles underlying traditional and converntional/allopathic medical systems.
  • Describe the five major areas of CAM.
  • Dsicuss factors to be considerd when evaluating CAM-related resources.
  • Identify a number of reliable CAM-related resources

Case-based modules are required for all Master's nursing students; two of the following modules must be taken in conjunction with clinical management courses:

  • Depression
  • Low Back Pain
  • Empacho
  • Asthma
  • Stress and Anxiety
