All four Rush University colleges plan special Commencement events to celebrate student achievements this month

Rush Medical College Graduation Events

The Rush Medical College Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 10, 2005. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Lounge of Room 500, Searle Conference Center, with the Class of 2005 reciting the Hippocratic Oath, administered by Dr. Paul J. Jones, immediately followed by the presentation of the awards. Rush Medical College will recognize over 30 students for academic excellence, outstanding performance, compassion as caregivers, competence and respect in the delivery of care, and a commitment to the underserved.

The Alumni Association of Rush Medical College will host a black-tie optional banquet for the graduating class on Friday, June 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the University Club of Chicago, 76 East Monroe Street, Chicago. Ben Walrath, elected student respondent, will address the graduating class of 2005 and present the Rush Medical College Faculty Awards. In addition, the Class of 2005 will formally be inducted into the Alumni Association of Rush Medical College.

The Student National Medical Association will host a Senior Banquet for its members on Wednesday, June 1st.

Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society will inducts its members on Wednesday, June 7th.

College of Nursing Graduation Events

The College of Nursing celebrates the graduation of its students in an annual Convocation ceremony. Family, friends and faculty attend this joyous occasion. The ceremony recognizes special achievements of continuing and graduating students, at both the prelicensure and graduate level. The Convocation is also the setting for the pinning of graduating prelicensure students. Each graduating BSN student receives the College pin as a gift from the Nurses Alumni Association. Faculty chosen by the student body pin each student in honor of their achievement. This warm and gracious event highlights the perseverance and academic success of the College of Nursing graduates.

College of Health Sciences Graduation Events

Department of Health Systems Management

Each year the Health Systems Management Department hosts a Graduation Gala for the graduates and their guests. HSM faculty members and the HSM alumni board members are also invited to this informal, fun evening, which always takes place on the Thursday evening of the last week of classes. The students select the location, which this year will be Maggiano's Little Italy.

One highlight of the evening is the fun awards, which the faculty members give out to the students. We'll think of something about the student, a quirk or hobby or some such, and then play off that—all in good natured fun.

Sometimes the students give out their own fun awards to the faculty as well.

In addition, the students present their own serious awards to the faculty. Typically there are three: the Hooder, the Outstanding Faculty Award, and the Bruce C. Campbell Award (for the most helpful faculty member).

Health Systems Management also hosts a brunch in the Searle Conference Center on graduation morning. The students bring their family and friends. Faculty and students enjoy each other's company one last time at this brunch. Several student awards are given out at that time, and the students recapitulate the faculty awards to again honor those recipients in front of their guests. The students each receive a framed class picture and hear some nice sendoff remarks from the program director, program chairman and dean.
