The graduate program in the Division of Neuroscience of The Graduate College at Rush University is one of the few in the country that offers training in disease oriented basic neuroscience; it is partly funded by a pre-doctoral training grant from the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health. The Director of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience is Dr. Leyla deToledo-Morrell. The training program offers interdisciplinary education in the field of neuroscience at the doctoral level to prepare students for careers in teaching and research. The diversity of interest and expertise among the faculty of the division provides students with educational and research opportunities in neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, behavioral neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neuro-chemistry, cell and molecular biology, all of which are important for the understanding of the functions of the central nervous system. The resources at Rush and in the Department of Neurological Sciences allow students the unique opportunity to carry out independent research on the basic neurobiological substrates of various neurological disorders.
