RUSH MEDICAL COLLEGE PEER TUTORIAL PROGRAM
The peer tutorial program provides help for students experiencing
academic difficulty. This program has been quite effective since
its establishment more than ten years ago. Robert Leven, Ph.D.
is the Director of Academic Services-Rush Medical College
and oversees the program.
Selection of the tutorial staff will be prepared from the tutor
volunteers on the basis of demonstrated expertise; some graduate
students will also be participating. Dr. Leven will consult with
course directors to establish the optimal arrangements for the
program; the courses differ widely regarding tutoring needs and
approaches. Tutoring groups for Anatomy and Histology will be
posted. All other tutoring is confidential. Student evaluations
of the service will be conducted.
Tutoring will be conducted in groups of six students or more.
Arrangements for the groups will be made in consultation with
the tutors, tutees and the course directors. Occasionally, a student
may have a compelling need for “one-on-one” tutoring.
This will require Dr. Leven’s approval. Tutoring sessions
must not be scheduled during regular class hours, AND tutors may
provide no more than two hours per week of tutoring for each group,
unless approval has been granted.
Tutors receive $20.00/hour for group tutoring and $10.00/hour
for “one-on-one” tutoring. These fees are paid by
Rush Medical College and are not the responsibility of the tutee.
Tutoring invoices should be submitted to the pocket on Dr. Leven’s
door in Suite 524-N Armour Academic Center.
If a student or tutor finds that a session is not effective,
notify Dr. Leven to make adjustments. Time is precious!
We are certain that all participants will find this a worthwhile
endeavor. A review of this program will be conducted at the end
of the academic year. Please keep us informed of your needs and
expectations during your participation.
