Introduction

Our Doctor of Philosophy in Integrated Biomedical Sciences program prepares you for research scientist positions in academia, industry and administration.

We take an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on disease as a process that involves molecular, biochemical, cellular and organ system changes.

You will use your training to formulate and test research hypotheses in a highly collaborative environment of both scientists and clinical researchers.

Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, training and critical thinking skills to evaluate important research questions. You will be able to generate research data and apply results to improve health outcomes.

Our Approach

You obtain hands-on experience at one of the nation's top academic medical centers, RUSH University Medical Center, in the vibrant city of Chicago.

At RUSH, you learn in small classes for more interaction with our faculty, who are also practitioners in their field.

In addition to the nationally renowned basic science and clinical research groups on campus, we participate in the following:

  • Professional development forums with the University of Illinois in Chicago
  • Translational research partnership with the University of Chicago
  • Medical informatics consortium, CAPriCORN, with all the academic medical centers in Chicago

Additional program highlights:

  • An educational program with a focus on collaborative learning, individualized mentoring and a commitment to biomedical scholarship
  • A common first-year curriculum that provides systematic exposure to the contemporary process of scientific discovery
  • Three laboratory rotations that expose you to different research environments, methods and research options for your dissertation focus

 

Program Length and Location

This is a five-year, on-campus program with a thesis.

 

Program Tuition

At RUSH University, we know your education is a big investment. We want to make sure you have all the information to be able to make the best financial decisions for you and your family.

Tuition for the Doctor of Philosophy in Integrated Biomedical Sciences program is $11,529 per term.

There is also an annual program fee of $250.

Select students will be offered competitive financial support. This may include a tuition scholarship, health insurance or a monthly stipend.

Financial support details are sent in the offer of admission letter.

Non-U.S. residents are not eligible for stipend support at the Graduate College.
