This page is meant to be a general guideline to assist you in consolidating your Federal Student loans. Please contact your lender or a Rush University Financial Aid Counselor to determine the best options for your situation.

As of 7/1/2006, in-school consolidation is no longer an option for student borrowers. Students must now wait until they have graduated to consolidate their federal loans.

What is Consolidation and is it Right for Me?

A federal consolidation loan is an educational loan that is taken out to pay off any outstanding federal loans of other types that a student may have. Consolidation may or may not be the best option for you.

Please contact your lender or a Rush Financial Aid Counselor to review your situation. If you'd like to review information on the benefits of consolidation, please visit http://www.finaid.org.

How Do I Do It?

  1. Review your situation with your current lender or with a Rush Financial Aid Counselor.
  2. Contact the lender you'd like to use and apply for a Federal Consolidation Loan. You will also need to have access to the National Student Loan Data System, so be sure you have your FAFSA PIN handy.
