Air Force Health Scholarship Program

To selected students who are pursuing a career in Medicine. The Air Force will pay for all tuition, books, and associated fees, plus you will receive a $1,349 per month stipend for the length of the program. You must be a U.S. citizen, meet physical qualifications, and have a competitive GPA and MCAT score. The Air Force offers both 3 and 4 year scholarships.

Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship

This is a program for scholarship support while commissioned in one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled in medical school. The age requirement may be waived depending on the individual and experience.

 Illinois Department of Public Health - Educational Loan Repayment Program

Physicians in primary care specialties who agree to practice for a minimum of two years in an under-served area (including state and federally designated areas, facilities and population groups) would be eligible for repayment of student loans of up to $25,000 per year for the first two years of commitment, and if the physician elects to remain in the program, this amount will increase in the third and fourth years.

Illinois Department of Public Health - Medical Student Scholarship Program

This scholarship pays tuition, mandatory fees, and a $950 monthly living stipend. Recipients repay scholarships by practicing full time, one year for each year of scholarship received as primary care physician in under-served areas of Illinois determined by the Illinois Department of Public Health (see www.illinoishealthpro.org for current areas designated as under-served). A two-year minimum commitment is required. To be eligible, the applicant must be an Illinois resident, demonstrate financial need and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an allopathic or osteopathic medical school located in Illinois . Preference is given to applicants demonstrating a commitment to the primary care specialties of family practice, general internal medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine/pediatrics, or obstetrics/gynecology. Preference is also shown to applicants with the greatest financial need and with prior experience with medically under-served populations. Time spent in residency or fellowship does not repay any part of the service obligation. The recipient must practice full time, one year for each year of scholarship received. If the service obligation is not met, the scholarship will convert to a loan, with the loan value being three times the amount of the scholarship dollars received. As required by law, recipients of service-based scholarships are required to pay taxes on the entire amount of scholarship proceeds each year. John Gyles Education Award

This award is for up to $3000 for students in all areas of post-secondary education, a minimum 2.7 GPA is required. Joseph Collins Foundation

Qualified applicants are those students who demonstrate financial need. Student must be in upper half of class except in most unusual cases. The foundation will consider a demonstrated interest in arts and letters, or other cultural pursuits outside of the field of medicine. Student must intend to consider specializing in neurology, psychiatry, or becoming a general practitioner. Student must demonstrate good moral character. The foundation awards up to $10,000. Funding is awarded yearly and is renewable. Applications may be obtained by contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid. Letters of request for nomination will be accepted in January.

National Health Service Corps

The National Health Service Corps is the part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that recruits health professionals for communities that lack adequate access to primary care services. The scholarship pays for tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment for up to four years of education, in addition to a monthly living stipend. For each year of support, a student must serve one year in a health professional shortage area upon completion of training. Minimum service obligation is two years. National Medical Fellowships

Financial support is offered for U.S. citizens who are members of groups that are under-represented in medicine. These include African Americans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans and mainland Puerto Ricans. National Society Daughters of the American Revolution

Students must be doing well scholastically. Students must have a financial need. Student must be American Citizens. Award amounts vary with each scholarship. All applicants must obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR chapter. Your state scholarship chairman will assist in locating the chapter nearest you. For Information send a stamped self-addressed business size envelope to obtain the name and address of your state scholarship chairman and an application for any of the Society's Scholarships. Piscano Scholars Program

This scholarship aids students who are committed to family practice and have demonstrated high levels of scholarship, leadership, character, interpersonal skills and community service. REACH Scholarship

REACH is pleased to announce the annual “REACH Your Goals” Scholarship Program. This program is designed to assist the growing number of adult learners, who are returning to college. Three (3) to five (5) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. To be eligible for the scholarship program, applicants meet the following criteria: be at least twenty-five years old at the time of application and be enrolled in or admitted to a degree or certificate program at a college or university. Graduate students must have earned the equivalent of a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on 4.0 scale based on the last half of baccalaureate credit hours or based on 12 semester hours or 15 quarter hours of graduate level credit. TYLENOL Scholarship Fund

The makers of the TYLENOL® Family of Products will award 10 $10,000 scholarships and 150 $1,000 scholarships for higher education to students who demonstrate leadership in community activities and school activities and who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in health-related fields. Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student in the fall at an accredited institution. This includes those students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course of study and who have one or more years of school remaining. USA Funds “Access to Education” Scholarships

USA Funds, the nation's leading student-loan guarantor, will award renewable $1,500 scholarships to full-time graduate students with financial need. Applicants must plan to enroll or are enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate coursework or half-time undergraduate coursework at an accredited university. Students must be enrolled for the entire academic year, beginning fall term and continuing through February 1 of the upcoming academic year. Applicants must also have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less, be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and are not currently in default on any student loans. Vietnamese Medical Association of the USA

Funds are available for third year medical students who have a strong interest in serving the Vietnamese communities in the US when she/he completes training. (Priority will be given to those who have financial need) The program awards scholarships between $1,000 and $2,000. American Association of University Women

Downers Grove Branch – Applicants must be a female resident of Downers Grove, Darien , Lisle, Westmont, or Woodridge , Illinois . This fund provides awards of $2000 per year. Applicant must be a mature woman who has returned to higher education after a five-year absence and is enrolled full-time. The applicant must be within two years of completion of Bachelor or Graduate Degree. American Medical Women's Association (Carroll Birch Award)

This award of $500 is presented for the best original research paper written by a student member of the AMWA attending an accredited medical school. The paper may have been previously published. American Medical Women's Association (Janet Glasgow Essay Award)

This award of $1000 is presented to an AMWA student member attending an accredited medical school for the best essay of approximately 1000 words identifying a woman physician who has been a significant mentor and role model. The paper should be of publishable quality and the student should have a personal relationship with the mentor. Information may be obtained by contacting Marie Glanz, Director of Special Programs. American Medical Women's Association (Wilhelm-Frankowski Scholarship)

This scholarship of $4000 is awarded to an AMWA student member. Medical students attending an accredited US medical school in their mid-first, second or third year are eligible to apply. Criteria include community service, work, research and participation in women's health issues; participation in AMWA activities; participation in women in medicine or medical student group(s) other than the AMWA. Greek Women's University Club

Applicants must be female and have at least one parent of Greek descent. Applicant must be a US citizen, and are a full-time college student with at least sophomore standing, or a full-time graduate student. Also, applicant must be a permanent resident of Chicago metropolitan area (50-mile radius). Recipients are chosen based on financial need, academic achievement, a written objective and extra-curricular activities. Award amount varies, but the maximum award is $1000. Ethnic scholarship

American Indian Graduate Center Award

These fellowships are for Native American Indians who plan to enroll in or who are engaged in graduate or professional study. To be considered for a scholarship, a person must be one-quarter or more of Indian blood from a federally recognized tribe, must have demonstrated the ability to pursue graduate study and must need financial assistance after all other sources of funding have been explored. Awards range from $250 to $10000 for the nine-month academic program. Awards are based on each applicant's unmet financial need as verified by the applicant's college financial aid office. Students of Polish descent in need of financial aid can apply to the Knights of Dabrowski's Crusade for Education program for help. Scholarships and/or interest-free loans are available on the basis of documented financial need, academic performance and community involvement. Applicants must be U.S. citizens of Polish descent or documented legal aliens of Polish descent who have been residents of the Chicago Metropolitan area for at least 4 years. Awards between $2000-$5000 are for “Italian American” students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Applicants must meet the following criteria: be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education; have a GPA of 3.25 out of a 4.0 scale; be a US resident or permanent resident alien; and for the purpose of the NIAF Scholarship Program--must have at least one ancestor who has immigrated from Italy. This program supports educational activities and the personal efforts of Polish American students, male and female, through financial scholarships. Cook County Physician's Association

This scholarship is for African American medical students who are currently enrolled in Chicago area medical schools. Applicants must be in good standing academically, demonstrate financial need, be a first, second or third year student, and may not be a previous Cook County Physician Association scholarship recipient. This scholarship is for students who have been accepted to or attending an accredited medical school in the US , and is a permanent resident of Baltimore City . The awards are based on financial need, academic achievement, and personal qualities. The scholarship is awarded yearly. Although there is no payback provision, students are encouraged to return to practice in Baltimore City following completion of their training. This award is for $5000 over two years assuming satisfactory progress toward the medical degree. This award is for students who reside in the hospital service area who will be attending school within the State of Illinois and pursuing an education in a health related field. The Illinois Sheriff's Association will be awarding scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois . Joanna F Reed Medical Scholarship

Scholarships are available to residents of Alabama or northwest Florida , specifically Escambia, Santa Rosa , Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes , Washington , Bay, Jackson , Calhoun, and Gulf Counties . Students must be accepted to or attend a private medical school. The awards will be based on financial need, scholastic ability, motivation, recommendations, character, ability, and promise. LaPorte Hospital Foundation (Kepler Award)

An award of $10000 is made annually to an outstanding student preparing to be a physician. Students must have been accepted into an accredited medical school. Residents of the La Porte Hospital and Health Services service will be given preference in the selection process. This award is made with the expectation that the recipient will establish a medical practice in the La Porte Regional Health System service area and become a member of the hospital's medical staff. The requirement is one year of practice in return for each award received. This scholarship is renewable for a second year. Grants are awarded to medical students who are Illinois residents with financial need. Preference is given to women and residents or former residents of DeKalb County , IL , especially those who tend to enter family practice in either DeKalb Country or any other county in Illinois with a population less than 50,000. This grant is for Nevada residents working toward an M.D. or D.O. degree at an accredited U.S. medical school. Amount of award varies. Ruth G White PEO Scholarship Fund

Applicant must be female and a California resident, attending medical school in California or attending school out of California , but maintaining California residency. Applications are sent only upon written request of a prospective applicant. Applicant must have completed first year of study. The program awards scholarships up to $2,500, depending on interest accrued.

Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society

The William E. Dochterman Medical Student Scholarship Fund was originally made possible through surplus funds from services donated by local physicians participating in the Sabin Oral Polio Vaccine Clinics sponsored by the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society in 1963. Applicants must have graduated from a high school in El Dorado, Sacramento or Yolo counties, but do not have to be a current resident of these counties to apply. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited American medical school on a full-time basis. Applications are evaluated primarily on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. Financial data will be analyzed according to family/student resources and household size. Thomas Brown McClelland Trust

Student must be a permanent resident of Dade County , Florida and must show outstanding promise in the study of medicine but lack of financial means to complete his/her education. Students must be available for a personal interview at a mutually agreeable time in Miami . Windham County Medical Association

Wisconsin Physician Loan Assistance Program

This loan repayment program in Wisconsin was established to assist rural and central city communities in recruiting and retaining primary care health professionals. This is accomplished by helping those who wish to locate in these areas repay loans accrued during their professional education. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health, operates this program for health professionals of various disciplines: primary care physicians, obstetricians, and psychiatrists. Maximum Award is $50,000 with a Service Obligation of 3 years Annual Repayment: Year 1 - 40% of the principal or $20,000(Whichever is less)-- Year 2 - 40% of the principal or $20,000(Whichever is less)-- Year 3 - 20% of the principal or $10,000(Whichever is less).
