- The program
is designed to be full-time from the start
through conclusion. Students are taking 12 or more hours per quarter for the 7 quarters of the program.
- Parent
information
is required on both the FAFSA and Institutional
Application to be considered for institutional grants
or loans.
-
- Students
must be registered at least half-time (4.5 hours
or more)
to receive federal or institutional aid consideration.
The exception is doctoral students registered for
3 hours in NUR 699, and Anesthesia students during
the residency portion of their program. Less than
half-time students may apply for a credit-based
loan.
- Students
who are students-at-large
are not eligible for federal or institutional aid.
If the status changes to a degree program, then
aid is possible from that time forward.
- Students in the post-masters or in the certificate program may apply for financial aid by completing the following application process.
- Graduate
nursing students must meet Satisfactory Academic
Progress (SAP)
standards as it relates to degree/certificate progress.
- Masters degree and DNP students must complete their degree in five years at a rate of 20% per year.
- PhD students must complete their degree in eight years at a rate of 15% per year.
- Certificate students must complete their program in four quarters.
- Employees
of Rush University Medical Center may be eligible
for LEAP - the employee tuition plan. LEAP
benefits are a form of financial aid and will be
included in the financial aid package.
- Most students typically come from positions of full-time
employment to full-time student status, and find
it difficult, if not impossible, to work during
the first year of the program.
The cost of education
includes a 'living allowance'
component which may be far less than the applicant
typically spends for monthly living expenses. This
'living allowance', however, is the amount utilized
for all Rush university graduate students living
in the Chicago area. Therefore, it is very important
to review your expenses and pay down credit
cards, outstanding loan obligations, etc., so that
you are able to live with the funds provided through
financial aid and any possible earnings.
- The first year academic calendar contains a break
of almost a month between the end of fall quarter
and beginning of winter quarter. During this time
students may be able to work to supplement additional
expenses and/or reduce the amount of educational
debt.
- Students in the second year residency receive a taxable
stipend of approximately $700 per month. This,
in addition to any aid offered, is generally sufficient
to cover living expenses throughout the year.
Anesthesia
applicants are strongly encouraged to contact
the Office of Student Financial Aid to speak
with a counselor regarding financial aid issues
and concerns.
