College/Deparment Financial Aid Features:
Rush Medical College
College of Nursing
College of Health Sciences
The Graduate College

Undergraduate (7 quarter and 4 quarter programs)

  • The program is designed to be full-time from the start through conclusion. Students are taking 12 or more hours per quarter.
  • Students who have already received a prior Bachelor's degree are not eligible for Pell Grant or federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant funds, or the Monetary Award Program of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
  • Parent information is required on both the FAFSA and Institutional Application to be considered for institutional grants or loans.
  • Credit-based loans may be necessary for some students to meet the cost of education. If so, then the student must be credit-worthy or else have co-signers who are credit-worthy. Having good credit is important now as well as in the future, and Rush University will assist individual students, if possible, with credit related issues; however, Rush University is unable to replace credit-based loans with institutional funds.
  • Students in the Bachelor's Completion Program are eligible for aid if registered for 6 hours or more. Because this is a web-based program, the maximum amount of aid that can be approved is the tuition. Please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for further information and assistance.
  • Books and equipment purchases from Rush's Bookstore must be made with either cash, check or credit card. "Vouchers" are not utilized by the University.

Graduate Nursing (Anesthesia see below)

  • Students must be registered at least half-time (4.5 hours or more) to receive federal or institutional aid consideration. The exception is doctoral students registered for 3 hours in NUR 699, and Anesthesia students during the residency portion of their program. Less than half-time students may apply for a credit-based loan.
  • Students who are students-at-large are not eligible for federal or institutional aid. If the status changes to a degree program, then aid is possible from that time forward.
  • Students in the post-masters or in the certificate program may apply for financial aid by completing the following application process.
  • Graduate nursing students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards as it relates to degree progress. The reverse side of the Projected Enrollment Form (on the Forms page) states the time frame for degree completion by program for continued federal aid eligibility.
  • Students taking web-based courses and otherwise eligible for aid can only receive up to the tuition cost for the quarter unless the web-based course comprises fewer than half of the hours for the quarter.
  • Employees of Rush University Medical Center may be eligible for LEAP - the employee tuition plan. LEAP benefits are a form of financial aid and will be included in the financial aid package.

Anesthesia Nursing

  • Most students typically come from positions of full-time employment to full-time student status, and find it difficult, if not impossible, to work during the first year of the program. The cost of education includes a 'living allowance' component which may be far less than the applicant typically spends for monthly living expenses. This 'living allowance', however, is the amount utilized for all Rush university graduate students living in the Chicago area. Therefore, it is very important to review your expenses and pay down credit cards, outstanding loan obligations, etc., so that you are able to live with the funds provided through financial aid and any possible earnings.
  • The first year academic calendar contains a break of almost a month between the end of fall quarter and beginning of winter quarter. During this time students may be able to work to supplement additional expenses and/or reduce the amount of educational debt.
  • Students in the second year residency receive a taxable stipend of approximately $700 per month. This, in addition to any aid offered, is generally sufficient to cover living expenses throughout the year.

Anesthesia applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Office of Student Financial Aid to speak with a counselor regarding financial aid issues and concerns.
