Students who apply for financial assistance are awarded financial aid based on a formula that designates both the sequence and the amount of assistance. The financial aid package may consist of the following types of aid.

  • loans from federal, state and/or institutional sources
  • grants from federal, state and/or institutional sources
  • employment allowance for on or off campus earnings
  • credit-based loan

Graduate and professional students receive most of their financial aid in the form of loans, since higher loan limits and more loan sources are available than grant assistance. Undergraduate students (without a bachelor's degree) may receive more grants than loans because of more available federal and state grant assistance. However, all students are awarded a base amount of loan and work so that grants (based on parent information requirement for each college) are awarded to students with the greatest need. The financial aid award letter will detail the budget and resources that were used in making the award. Financial aid packages will change from year to year since costs, sources and amounts of financial assistance fluctuate.

Awards are determined after applicants are admitted to a program. Individuals may submit the FAFSA and Institutional Application prior to acceptance; however, no action will occur until acceptance is made. The applicant will be informed via email if additional documents are needed.
