Rush typically accepts 90 quarter hours of transfer credit for baccalaureate students from accredited colleges/universities toward general education and other lower-level course requirements. Course information (including grades) from these courses transferred from another institution is not recorded on the student's transcript; only the number of credits is recorded and added to the cumulative number of credits.
Petition to Transfer Credit
Students wishing to transfer a course should complete a Petition to Transfer Credit form, available online or in the Office of the Registrar. The transfer of credit process should be initiated no later than one quarter prior to when the required course is offered and completed prior to the first day of that quarter. The Office of the Registrar will inform the student and his/her advisor when a formal decision has been made regarding whether or not the credit will transfer. Specific directions can be found on the form. Transfer credit will only be accepted from an accredited college/university. Undergraduate courses must be completed with a “C” or better to be awarded transfer credit while graduate-level courses must be completed with a “B” or better. This policy also applies to courses taken while a student-at-large at Rush. Undergraduate-level courses cannot be transferred to meet the requirements of a course taught at the graduate-level at Rush.
Transfer of Credit: The Graduate College
Subject to the approval of the major advisor and the division director, graduate level courses taken at other institutions may be applied to the graduate degree requirements if they are judged to meet divisional requirements.
Transfer of Credit Policy: Communication Disorders & Sciences
The issue of transfer credit will be addressed only after the student is accepted into the program. Students should check with their academic advisors about the feasibility and process for transferring credit.
The faculty may approve graduate-level transfer credit at the grade of "B" or better, not to exceed 45 quarter hours. Of those, a maximum of six quarter hours may be earned for clinical education experiences and a maximum of 39 quarter hours may be earned for didactic courses. The instructor and department chair recommend whether or not to approve credit for transfer.
The faculty may approve graduate-level transfer credit from accredited universities at the grade of "B" or better, not to exceed a total of 12 quarter hour credits. Practicum experience at the graduate level may be transferred, not to exceed three quarter hour credits. The instructor and the department chair recommend whether or not to approve credit for transfer.
Transfer of Credit: College of Health Sciences
Undergraduate courses taken at a accredited college or university that fulfill the prerequisite requirements for admission to a program offered by the College may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree, subject to approval by the department. In addition, some programs may accept students who may have additional co-requisite course requirements that may be completed at another accredited college or university, concurrent with enrollment at Rush University.
Graduate credit earned at an accredited college or university may be applied to the Master of Science degree requirements for Rush, subject to the approval of the department. The amount of credit allowable for transfer may be limited.
Transfer of Credit: College of Nursing
Graduate credit earned at an accredited college/university may be applied to the MSN, DNP or PhD degree requirements at Rush subject to the approval of the advisor and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
