Workshops, Library of Rush University

The Library provides many free workshops to the students, staff, and faculty of Rush.

All workshops meet on the 9th floor of the Armour Academic Center (AAC) in room 902 AAC (near the METC). Workshops vary in length. All workshops are free.

Group and individual instruction available. Our InfoConsults provide individualized instruction tailored to your level of experience and area of interest. Available Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask about our consultations on using other databases and information tools.

PubMed

Learn how to effectively search Medline, the world's largest biomedical database, through PubMed. This workshop demonstrates how to use MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) to generate relevant search results. Participants also practice saving and setting search alerts using My NCBI.

Scopus

Find out who is citing you! Scopus is our citation tracking database that can help determine the most cited papers in a particular discipline. Participants will learn to search by keyword, author, or institutional affiliation and become familiar with Rush's faculty article database.

RSS for Healthcare Professionals

Tired of clogging up your email with journal table of contents alerts, automatic search results, and email stories from your favorite websites? Learn to use an RSS reader to manage monitor updates from journals, database searches and blogs.

Basic RefWorks

RefWorks is Web-based bibliographic management software used to generate reference lists. In this workshop, participants will create a RefWorks account, learn to import citations directly from a few of the Library's most popular databases, organize collections of references and generate a bibliography.

Advanced RefWorks

This is the second workshop in the series. In this workshop, users will learn more advanced features of RefWorks. Participants will learn to search their account, add attachments to individual citations, create RefShare links, and search various Library catalogs within the database.

Ebsco CINAHL

This workshop provides instruction to effectively search the CINAHL database via Ebsco. CINAHL stands for the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and is our primary resources for searching literature in the field of nursing.

MEDLINE via OvidSP

Learn how to effectively search Medline, the world's largest biomedical database, through OvidSP. This workshop demonstrates how to use MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) to generate relevant search results. Participants also practice saving and setting search alerts using OvidSP's Personal Account feature.

Where's the Money?

Familiarize yourself with resources that help find research funding! The following tools will be demostrated: NIH's OER (Office of Extramural Research), Grants.gov, and Grantsnet.

Evidence Based Literature Searching

Don't know the first thing about finding Evidence-based literature? This workshop will show you the best resources to use and tips on how to create an effective search.

You Found It! Now What?

Have you ever had difficulty obtaining the full text of an article through the Library's resources? Learn a few tips to help navigate the wild world of full text access.

METC Workshops:

PowerPoint

This workshop covers how to add slides to a presentation based on a design template. How to create autoshapes, draw lines and shapes, add images slides, and animate the slide or presentation.

Excel

This workshop will introduce the basic concepts and use of spreadsheets in Excel. Excel terms and definitions will be explained as well as how to create and enter data into a new Workbook, use formulas, format data, and create a chart from Excel data

Dealing with Images

Participants will learn to find medical images from various online sources. An explanation of image resolution and importing images into documents and presentations will be included.
